Not sure if chained calculations is the correct term, although discovered stat tables on my scientific calculator – factorization and recursion(memory limitation).
Is there a function for binary recursion? – faq; electronics: 4-bit shift registers, limiting and changing number sequences emulating multiplication without using the operator.

Development of the device progressed at a rapid rate. By 1971, Bell researchers Michael F. Tompsett et al. were able to capture images with simple linear devices.”
